Omri Mor the pianist, maestro Tom Cohen, and the Jerusalem Orchestra East West will perform a tribute concert to Algerian pianist and father of the Raï style, Maurice El Médioni, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 95. El Médioni was among the most important and influential musicians of our time. He is regarded as the proclaimer of the Raï style and the person who introduced many elements from the West into North African music.
El Médioni was not only strongly associated with North African music, but he also performed at numerous jazz festivals around the world. In Maurice’s honor and memory, the orchestra will perform a special concert, featuring an original performance that will be premiered at the festival. They will perform works that connect Latin America, Andalusia, and Mesopotamia alongside pianist Omri Mor, one of El Médioni’s outstanding successors.
